The Australian Council for Children and Youth Organisations (ACCYO) is a national not-for-profit organisation established in 2001.
Our goal is to assist organisations to protect children and young people in their care. Each day there are millions of positive and enriching interactions between children, staff members and volunteers within organisations. The value of these interactions is immeasurable.
However, all children are inherently vulnerable to abuse by adults. Organisations cannot afford to be complacent. The harm caused by abuse can be dire.
There is no one step that will protect children. Organisations need to implement a comprehensive set of safeguards to protect children.
Child abuse is preventable and this is the fundamental aim of ACCYO's work. To assist we have developed the Safeguarding Children Program, which helps organisations implement best-practice policies and standards to protect children in their care.
ACCYO's Safeguarding Children Program is applicable and relevant nationally. We assist organisations large and small, urban, regional or remote, community based, volunteer or corporate, to adopt a best-practice approach to protecting children and young people.
In 2003 ACCYO received a National Child Protection Award from the Australian Council for Children and Parenting highly commending our work and recognising our significant contribution to child protection in Australia.
ACCYO is a signatory to the Australian Research Alliance for Children and Youth (ARACY) A Commitment to Young Australians.
